5 Counties Seminar '96

Lady Jane
From the view of a member of the Burlington Weavers Guild

Five Counties Seminar is held annually in the Midwestern Region of the Ontario Handweavers & Spinners. It includes guilds from Cambridge, Guelph, Niagara, Hamilton, Burlington, Georgetown, Oakville. (if I forgot anyone, forgive me) It is held every year on the last Saturday of September. The hosts in '96 were the Cambridge Weavers' & Spinners' Guild, with the assistance of the Hamilton Weavers & Spinners Guild. It was held at the Rochton Agricultural Hall.
The Challenge was: "The Way We Were........" zeroing in on the time period 1820 to 1920. The focus was on handspinning for and/or weaving/knitting/crocheting/tatting/other lace methods with wool and/or cotton fibre. (did you get all that?)

blouse & shawl A feature part of the seminar is always the guild display.
The Burlington guild worked hard on our diplay.lace table Our spinners, spinning silk, cotton and wool, worked overtime, and those who crochet worked up some beautiful lace for the blouse and samples for the lace table (those were fantastic,as you can see). The weavers wove handtowels, serviettes and a tea-cloth for the tea table. There was handmade paper on the writing desk. The shawl was knitted of handspun wool. The earings were woven in sewing thread. Other things on "Lady Jane" were the Kumihimo necklace, tea table beaded hair clip, beaded belt catch and woven bag of handspun silk.

Rolag dogWe were very proud of our little "Rolag" puppy with the woven collar.

And it payed off! We were judged the "Best Guild Display".

The exhibits pictures shown here were taken of the award winning diplay.
